This year’s Plastic Free July asks us all to be part of the ‘Plastic Pollution Solution’ and reduce our reliance on single-use plastics. Each year, Plastic Free July draws 100+ million global participants from 190 countries – and asks communities to reduce their plastic footprint.
In Australia, we use over 1 million tonnes of single-use plastic per year.
These plastics end up in landfill – or downstream in our waterways, lakes and oceans. By reducing our plastic footprint, we can help to reduce the conveyance of pollutants from our streets to our aquatic environments.
We follow Stormwater Shepherds’ 5R’s framework to Reduce, Reuse, Refuse, Recycle & Replace. By applying this framework, we can all make small changes that lead to huge improvements to our local environments – and develop sustainable communities with reduced demand for single-use plastic.
Protecting Our Oceans
Plastic Free July is a great opportunity to raise awareness around plastic pollution and join millions of people from around the world to eliminate plastic waste.
Atlan was the King of Atlantis, and Protector of the Oceans, and we work in our urban catchments to remove plastic pollution at the source. Stormwater infrastructure helps to protect Joy in Water experiences for future generations and minimises the conveyance of urban pollution to our riverine and marine environments.
Gross Pollutant Traps (GPTs), such as the Vortceptor, BaffleBox and StormSack, are primary treatment devices that act as the first line of defence in our urban catchments. Designed to remove pollutants before they are conveyed downstream to our waterways, these devices are essential infrastructure to ensure liveable and sustainable communities.
We manufacture these generational assets to protect local waterways, and support Australia’s councils, engineers, and developers to design, install and maintain our stormwater network.
Together, we can reduce our plastic footprint and protect our rivers, lakes and oceans.
