During peak rain events, On-site Stormwater Detention (OSD) is an essential flood mitigation strategy that helps to slow runoff from developed areas. Impervious surfaces and reduced infiltration are characteristic of urban development, which causes stormwater to pool and increases flood risk.
Modelling sites to meet the demands of increased stormwater runoff ensures the on-site capacity to capture stormwater in underground detention assets. The design of OSD tanks allows them to capture peak runoff volumes during storm events and slowly let them go once the storm has passed.
