Yes. Maintenance on FlowGuard is fast, practical and cost-effective. A modular system with no loose filter media, the device is easily disassembled during maintenance – allowing removal of the top cover, emptying of the sedimentation box, and assessment of the filter bag.
FlowGuard is a SQIDEP-verified tertiary filtration solution designed for surface-level installation in drainage channels and stormwater pits. Directly accessible without specialised equipment or confined space entry, this allows maintenance technicians to perform quick visual inspections, cleaning, and component replacement.
An example of a decentralised stormwater management device, these types of assets are installed at-source and align with WSUD (Water Sensitive Urban Design) and LID (Low-Impact Development) frameworks. Compared to centralised assets, these devices offer smaller local-scale treatment devices with reduced operational costs and labour requirements.
Tertiary Filtration Solution with Low Cost Maintenance
Routine maintenance begins with visual inspection of the FlowGuard and the removal of any debris and gross pollutants from around the top cover. The cover can then be removed, and maintenance technicians can inspect all internal components to ensure they are in correct working condition.
The sediment chamber is then directly accessible for the removal of sediment, organic matter, and other particulates. Sediment is removed by lifting and emptying the sediment chambers or by sucking it directly out using suction equipment.
To maintain optimal performance, cleaning the sediment chamber and top cover are performed at regular intervals. For typical pollutant loadings, we recommend this every 4 months (per the Atlan maintenance manual). This may differ across sites with low or high levels of pollution, which will be assessed, and the maintenance schedule adjusted accordingly.
Service technicians will then inspect the filter pads to ensure they are in operating condition. The service life of these media filters is up to 10 years. Replacement filters are available for exchange, and old filter pads can be returned or disposed of appropriately.
By combining effective pollutant capture with easy surface access and simple servicing requirements, FlowGuard provides a practical stormwater treatment solution for a wide range of applications. From retrofit projects to new developments, its maintenance-friendly design supports long-term performance while reducing operational complexity for asset owners and maintenance teams.
