SPEL Stormwater is proud to supply the floating wetland stormwater treatment system at Parklakes II, a subdivision at Bli Bli, on Queensland\u2019s Sunshine Coast.<\/p>\n

The new floating wetland water treatment system<\/a> will also be the subject of a four year research project.<\/p>\n

The floating water treatment system at Parklakes II is the first time such a system has been used on a greenfield development of such size.<\/p>\n

The system will involve the installation of 230 “living” pontoons<\/a> to filter man-made lakes which will tackle the stormwater from 436 residential lots, a school, and a 226 unit retirement village in the subdivision.<\/p>\n

The first two of the pontoons were launched on Wednesday at a function attended by representatives from the Sunshine Coast Council, the University of the Sunshine Coast, and Parklakes II developers and contractors.<\/p>\n

A PhD student will study the efficiency of the floating wetlands system over the next four years in collaboration with the University of the Sunshine Coast.<\/p>\n

Mayor Mark Jamieson commended Parklakes II developers Robert Flipp and Peter Shadforth for investing in the innovative project and funding its research.<\/p>\n

He also said research and monitoring of the system was a unique opportunity for the council and the university to work together based on a common objective of making the Sunshine Coast Australia’s most sustainable region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
