In early November 2015, SPEL Stormwater held four, very successful and well attended, breakfast seminars specifically arranged for councils, consultants and developers.<\/p>\n

After having worked together with University of Sunshine Coast (USC) and Queensland University of Technology (QUT) on numerous successful research projects, we felt it was time to celebrate and share the results of some of our collaborative research projects and achievements.<\/p>\n

We invited Professor Dr-Ing Carsten Dierkes<\/a>, a world renowned and published academic, all the way from Germany to speak to our fellow industry colleagues at each of the four events held in Sydney, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and Melbourne.<\/p>\n

Professor Dierkes had developed and studied innovative systems for stormwater treatment in Germany and Europe since 1999. He was the Secretary of the Working Group on Source Control for Stormwater Management (SOCOMA) of the International Water Association (IWA) and International Association of Hydraulic Engineering and Research (IAHR), Joint Committee on Urban Drainage.<\/p>\n

At the breakfast seminars, Professor Dierkes gave in-depth insights into advances in technology including Hydrosystems<\/a> and Hydrochannel, presenting many case studies where the application of these products have had a major impact on various sites throughout Europe. He also spoke about stormwater policy changes, latest research and the impacts of climate change in Germany and Europe.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Joining Professor Dierkes was our very own Dr Darren Drapper<\/a>, an experienced and published Environmental Engineer. Dr Drapper has researched, designed, constructed and monitored WSUD stormwater treatment measures across Australia and Internationally. Together with Andy Hornbuckle<\/a>, Dr Drapper complemented Professors Dierkes by presenting research findings and case studies on Stormsack<\/a>, SPELFilter<\/a>, BioRetention<\/a> and Floating Wetlands<\/a> throughout Australia.<\/p>\n
