data-contrast=\"auto\">nutrients\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and hydrocarbons are\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">being\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">washed in<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to Sydney Harbo<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ur, turning this\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">once\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">coveted\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">tourist spot\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">into a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thenewdaily.com.au\/life\/wellbeing\/2019\/09\/20\/sydney-harbour-in-all-its-gory\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Olympic sized swimming pool of waste<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The cigarette butts we thoughtlessly toss from the car window<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he fertilizer<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0on\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">our front lawn, and of course the metals and chemicals<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0emitted from our cars, boats and jet skis<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0all find<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0themselves<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in our stormwater\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">drains\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">after a heavy afternoon storm<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Where does this<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0storm<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">water end up? In the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">once pristine\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">rivers, oceans and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">harbours<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0we<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">enjoy.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In late 2020,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">at a petrol station site overlooking Sydney Harbour,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">SPEL installed a\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Puraceptor<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This lightweight fibreglass tank\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">captures and contains hydrocarbons from potentially dangerous\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">spills\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0leaks<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">preventing them<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">rom entering the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">stormwater system<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and ultimately the precious waters of Sydney Harbour.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Its\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">uniquely designed<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">chamber system\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">makes it suitable\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">for<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0a wide range of applications<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0including petrol and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">re-fuelling\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">stations<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, asphalt plants, power stations, substations and switchyards<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">mining
